Progressive youth vote organization endorses Democratic candidates in Texas
Austin, TX — Today, NextGen PAC endorsed candidate Beto O’Rourke for Texas Governor. Ahead of the election this November, NextGen PAC will leverage its grassroots organizing infrastructure in Texas by mobilizing thousands of young voters to defeat incumbent Texas Governor Greg Abbot. Additional endorsements in the Lone Star state include Democratic Lieutenant Governor nominee Mike Collier and Democratic Attorney General nominee Rochelle Garza.
NextGen PAC’s endorsement of O’Rourke is due to his commitment to stronger gun safety legislation, immigrant rights, and LGBTQIA+ rights. Incumbent Governor Greg Abbott has launched an aggressive attack on Texan’s civil liberties in the past eight years, and young voters know that O’Rourke is a leader who will truly represent and reflect their vision for the future. NextGen PAC has endorsed Mike Collier for Lieutenant Governor and Rochelle Garza for Attorney General due to similar stances on key issues. These lawmakers are the start to creating a more just and equitable Texas for decades to come.
“As a Texan, I could not be more proud to put NextGen PAC’s support behind Beto O’Rourke, Mike Collier, and Rochelle Garza,” NextGen PAC President and Executive Director Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “These candidates represent the values of young people in Texas and are committed to building a better community for all. We cannot stand by while GOP extremists like Governor Abbott attack LGBTQIA+ rights, block gun safety legislation, and criminalize abortion access and care. NextGen PAC will mobilize young people across the state to vote these MAGA Republicans out and ensure our democracy reflects the values of the largest and most diverse generation in American history.”
To flip Texas blue, NextGen PAC will invest in organizers in communities and on campuses across the state to ensure young people are ready to turn out for Democrats up and down the ballot. In 2020, NextGen contributed to the highest youth voter turnout in history, reaching more than 10.5 million people across nearly a dozen states and motivating nearly 4.7 million to cast ballots in the November election. Across the country in 2020, NextGen reached one in every nine voters under 35 who cast a ballot.
