Progressive youth vote organization endorses Democratic candidates in Arizona
Phoenix, AZ — Today, NextGen PAC endorsed candidate Katie Hobbs for Governor. Ahead of the election this November, NextGen PAC will leverage its grassroots organizing infrastructure in Arizona by mobilizing thousands of young voters to defeat Republican Kari Lake. Additional endorsements in the Copper State include Democratic Secretary of State nominee Reginald Bolding and Democratic Attorney General nominee Kris Mayes.
NextGen PAC’s endorsement of Hobbs is due to her commitment to protecting voting rights, protecting abortion access and care, and fighting for climate justice. Republican candidate Kari Lake is a staunch election-denier who has promised to rollback Arizonans’ basic rights, and young voters know that Hobbs is a leader who will truly represent and fight for their vision for the future. NextGen PAC has endorsed candidates Reginald Bolding and Kris Mayes due to similar stances on key issues. While these lawmakers fight for many important issues, they are a key part of ensuring Arizona’s elections remain just, equitable, and democratic for the future.
“NextGen PAC is proud to support progressives Katie Hobbs, Reginald Bolding, and Kris Mayes ahead of Arizona’s midterm elections,” NextGen PAC President and Executive Director Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “In Arizona, voting rights and democracy are under attack. We are fighting back against MAGA candidates like Kari Lake who plan on rolling back access to basic civil liberties like the right to abortion access and care. Young Arizonans showed up in record numbers to flip the state blue for the first time in nearly 30 years last election cycle and we will activate this crucial bloc again to stand up for a future that truly represents the largest and most diverse generation in American history.”
To keep Arizona blue, NextGen PAC will invest in organizers in communities and on campuses across the state to ensure young people are ready to turn out for Democrats up and down the ballot. In 2020, NextGen contributed to the highest youth voter turnout in history, reaching more than 10.5 million people across nearly a dozen states and motivating nearly 4.7 million to cast ballots in the November election. Across the country in 2020, NextGen reached one in every nine voters under 35 who cast a ballot.
