Progressive youth vote organization endorses Democratic candidate in North Carolina
Raleigh, NC — Today, NextGen PAC endorsed candidate Cheri Beasley for Senate. Ahead of the election this November, NextGen PAC will leverage its grassroots organizing infrastructure in North Carolina by mobilizing thousands of young voters to defeat Republican Senate candidate Ted Budd.
NextGen PAC’s endorsement of Beasley is due to her commitment to protecting voting rights, abortion rights, and LGBTQIA+ rights. Representative Budd has spent his time in Congress attacking North Carolinians’ civil liberties, and young voters know that Beasley is a leader who will truly represent and reflect their vision for the future. An experienced lawmaker and civil rights advocate, Beasley is the way forward for a more just and equitable North Carolina.
“As a former public defender and judge, Beasley has a proven track record of fighting for the rights of everyday people in North Carolina,” NextGen PAC President and Executive Director Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “Young people know Beasley will be a champion for their issues, whereas Representative Budd will continue pushing a MAGA agenda that aims to rollback voting rights, abortion access and care, and gun safety. As we work to mobilize young voters in North Carolina to elect progressive candidates, we know Beasley is someone who will fight for and represent young voters’ values and beliefs.”
To flip North Carolina blue, NextGen PAC will invest in organizers in communities and on campuses across the state to ensure young people are ready to turn out for Democrats up and down the ballot. In 2020, NextGen contributed to the highest youth voter turnout in history, reaching more than 10.5 million people across nearly a dozen states and motivating nearly 4.7 million to cast ballots in the November election. Across the country in 2020, NextGen reached one in every nine voters under 35 who cast a ballot.
