President Biden Joins Groups to Accept Endorsements at LCV’s Capital Dinner
Washington, D.C. — Today four leading environmental and climate organizations – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, NextGen PAC, NRDC Action Fund and the Sierra Club – endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for reelection. This is the first time the four groups have ever jointly announced a presidential endorsement. President Biden accepted the endorsements in-person at LCV’s 2023 Capital Dinner joined by representatives of each organization. The Biden-Harris administration has done far more to address the climate crisis and environmental injustice than any administration in our nation’s history.
“Since Day One, President Biden and Vice President Harris have cut through the division in Washington to prioritize and deliver transformational progress on climate, jobs, and justice, and have jump-started our transition to a more equitable clean energy future,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are so grateful for their leadership and are all-in to help reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris so they can finish the job.”
“Young voters make up the largest eligible voting bloc in America and climate justice is a key voting priority,” said NextGen PAC President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez. “We commend President Biden for his steadfast commitment to confronting the urgent climate crisis that looms over us. By championing the most groundbreaking climate legislation ever witnessed in our nation’s history, he has shown his attentiveness to the concerns of the younger generation. Young voters stand prepared to support his reelection, and continue prioritizing our unwavering dedication to promoting ambitious climate initiatives and safeguarding our collective future.
“President Biden’s climate leadership has been nothing short of historic,” said Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund. “His policies are already driving a heartland manufacturing renaissance with clean energy at its core, and he has worked to advance environmental justice. We’re counting on Biden taking the fight to the next level in his second term, and he can count on our support.”
“President Biden has acted courageously during a critical inflection point in the climate fight,” said Ben Jealous, National Executive Director of the Sierra Club. “No other administration has done more to move us forward. The stakes could not be higher and the choice could not be more clear. We need President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris back in the White House for another four years.”
“President Biden and Vice President Harris are grateful to have earned the unified support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, NRDC Action Fund, Sierra Club, and NextGen PAC,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden-Harris Campaign Manager. “The President believes we must not only act urgently to address the climate crisis, but to also invest in clean energy jobs for a better future. The stakes for 2024 couldn’t be higher, and we can’t afford to go backwards. These four outstanding groups bring essential organizational support and resources to the table, and will better position our campaign to reach into communities where they have built trusted relationships to activate voters where they are, and communicate President Biden’s commitment to get the job done for the American people.”
The four organizations combined represent millions of members and activists in every state across the country. The organizations each plan to educate and mobilize their members and supporters around President Biden and Vice President Harris’s climate and environmental justice record ahead of the election. Polling has repeatedly shown that voters support the clean energy and environmental justice provisions in recent climate legislation signed into law by President Biden, the Inflation Reduction Act, and these issues are especially motivating to younger voters. In addition, the Biden-Harris campaign is featured on GiveGreen.com, the largest progressive issue-based candidate fundraising platform in U.S. politics.
President Biden has governed as the most pro-climate action president in American history. On his first day and in his first week President Biden prioritized executive actions to address climate action, environmental justice, conservation and more. President Biden rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement and created the first-ever National Climate Task Force of over 25 Cabinet-level leaders working to implement a “whole of government” approach to meet the his goal of cutting climate pollution by at least 50 percent below 2005 levels by 2030; achieving 100 percent carbon pollution-free electricity by 2035; achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050; and delivering at least 40 percent of the benefits from federal investments in climate and clean energy to disadvantaged communities.
With persistent leadership and determination from President Biden, Vice President Harris and their entire administration, Congressional Democrats passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the most significant legislative action in U.S. history with roughly $370 billion in investments for climate solutions, clean energy, and environmental justice. Together, these bills will create millions of good-paying clean energy jobs (with over 140,000 already created since IRA was enacted into law) while accelerating our clean energy transition, upgrade the power grid, improve public transit including zero-emission transit and school buses, install a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, reduce methane pollution and clean up legacy pollution, replace lead pipes and deliver clean water and invest $20 billion in climate smart agriculture and strengthen climate resilience.
Through executive action, the Biden-Harris administration has established the first-ever White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council and White House Office of Environmental Justice; approved the first commercial-scale offshore wind projects and record levels of solar and other renewable energy projects on public lands; created a new initiative to deploy and distribute energy resources in disadvantaged communities; set a national target of, and proposed a rule to achieve, 50 percent electric vehicle sales share in 2030; increased the average fuel economy to 49 miles per gallon, the strongest-ever passenger vehicle standards; set limits on health-harming pollution from heavy trucks and buses for the first time in 20 years; expanded the Weatherization Assistance Program; advanced clean domestic manufacturing; rallied more than 100 countries to join the Global Methane Pledge to reduce emissions 30 percent from 2020 levels by 2030 and proposed a rule to reduce U.S. methane emissions from the oil and gas sector; pushed steel and cement companies to commit for the first time to reach net-zero emissions by 2050; and created an Interagency Working Group on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization, among other initiatives and accomplishments.
President Biden and Vice President Harris also launched the America the Beautiful challenge to protect 30 percent of our lands and waters by 2030; designated Camp Hale, Avi Kwa Ame and Castner Range National Monuments; restored and strengthened protections for Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and Northeast Canyons and Seamounts National Monuments, as well as the Tongass National Forest and Bristol Bay in Alaska; protected the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Chaco Canyon and Boundary Waters from drilling and mining; and expanded access to outdoor recreation opportunities in urban areas.
Paid for by League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, NextGen Climate Action Committee, NRDC Action Fund PAC, and the Sierra Club Political Committee and authorized by Biden for President.
